Q1. Who is Globeflight?
Globeflight is a locally-owned Courier Company established in Year 2000.  The Company has office branches in South Africa, UK, China, India and in most African countries.

Q3. Are there destinations that you are not able to cover?
All war torn Countries and Islands pose major difficulties for most courier companies in terms of delivery. Countries like Congo, Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan are difficult to access.

Q4. Can Globeflight arrange for collection /pick up of my shipment from offices within Nairobi?
Yes we can. However we have to liaise with the Globeflight Customer Service Helpdesk to make arrangements for collection.

Q5. What is the difference between documents and parcels?
A document is unbound printed matter and paper based articles e.g. letters, reports, invoices, certificates, etc.
A non document or parcel is anything other than documents eg Tapes, X-rays, CDs, Spares, Computer software, etc

Note:  All non documents require customs documentation i.e. Commercial Invoice. Invoices for shipments such as samples or goods with ‘No commercial value’ (brochures, annual reports, pamphlets) should have Goods of no Commercial Value.  Value for Customs Purposes Only’ indicated on the invoices.

Q6. Are there any items that will not be accepted as courier material?
Yes. There are items that cannot be accepted as courier material. These include:

  • Dangerous or hazardous  goods or materials
  • Flammable goods
  • Perishable goods
  • Precious stones or Jewellery e.g. Diamonds, Gold watches or jewellery, etc
  • Cash or cheques
  • Weapons or firearms
  • Live animals
  • Gas cylinders

(The Client should informed that Globeflight is free to inspect the goods before they are sent in cases where it is found necessary)

Q7. Does Globeflight have an insurance cover for goods in transit?
The maximum limit if liability of Globeflight Worldwide Express for loss or damage is USD 50 per shipment. The Customer is encouraged to take up their own insurance cover when they are sending goods with a high commercial value.

Q8. How do I get to know my shipment has been delivered?
You can track your shipment on our website www.globeflight.co.ke Tracking is done using the airway bill no. of the shipment.  You can also contact our Customer Service helpdesk after the stipulated transit time to get information on the status of your shipment.  Delivery depends on the final destination of the shipment but ranges between 1 – 6 days.

Q9. What are your rates for heavier or bulkier consignments?
Airfreight is a more cost effective alternative to courier. Transit times depend on destination and Customs clearance procedures. Airfreight tariffs are based on the weight, volume, value and destination. Globeflight offers both a DOOR TO DOOR and DOOR TO AIRPORT SERVICE depending on the Customers’ needs.

 

 



Q10. What is Import Express?
Collection of parcels from international destinations, customs clearance and delivery to the door.  For courier imports, we offer free customs clearance.  However any duties or taxes payable are paid by the Client.

Q11. What are your requirements for Imports?
For us to collect shipments we require the following information:

  • Description of the shipment.
  • Weight of the shipment (if known).
  • Physical collecting address for the shipment.
  • Contact person.
  • Working telephone number(s).

Q12. Which countries do you collect from?
We collect mainly from China, UK, South Africa, India and other countries. 

Q13. What are the advantages of Import Express?
The Client pays us one cheque for collection, clearing and delivery. Import express will save you the hassles of clearing, time and money.

Q14. What are your rates for Imports?
Rates depend on the physical collecting address of the shipment and the weight of the shipment.  Courier is faster and more expensive than freight.  Courier is appropriate for small weights and freight is appropriate for big weights.

Q15. What are Services for Kenyans living abroad?
These are services offered to Kenyans living abroad who are either:

  • Returning home with their household possessions and/or car(s).
  • Receiving parcels from Kenya to their resident country.
  • Consultation on Kenya Custom requirements for imports & exports.

Q16. What is Clearing and Forwarding?
Inbound and outbound goods need to be cleared with Customs upon entry or exit into the country.  Goods are checked for compliance with the Kenya Customs requirements and regulations.  The Kenya Revenue Authority has put in place Customs clearance procedures and processes that have to be adhered to.

Q17. What are storage charges?
When goods arrive at JKIA, Customs give a free storage period of 48 hours, after which there is a daily storage charge.  Storage charges are calculated using the storage rate charged by the company storing the goods multiplied by the no. of kilograms of the shipment.

Q18. Can I clear my goods without an IDF?
Yes you can.  Customs have 2 methods of clearing shipments:

  • Using the C63 Customs entry which requires application for an IDF.
  • Using F147 which is a direct assessment. For this entry, the IDF can be paid for directly in the Customs system without having to apply for it.
